Project 50: How it’s going, and what I’m doing

Hello! Since Today marks the two week mark of me starting Project 50, I thought I share with you how it’s been going. Sorry that I missed one week, but eh, I’ve got a job and other hobbies.

Anyways, I’m really, really really happy with how it’s been going! I think one of my favorite parts, when I can get to it, is my morning routine. It really gets me excited to wake up, and I’ve been able to get some stretching and reading done. It’s a really easy way to get in two of the requirements (reading and exercise). The morning yoga really stretches my muscles and I’ve started to hear some back/hip cracking. It’s making me more flexible, which is something I struggle with, so I’m pretty happy with that. Also, most days it ensures that I get breakfast, both because my morning routine includes my walk to breakfast and because I know 8 AM is a long way from lunch. It is taking a bit longer than I’d like, though. I’ve cut out the thanking the day thing since I live with other people, and it’s kind of inconvenient to stare at the wall for five minutes and I get bored super easily. Some days my morning routine also involves putting on makeup. I’ve also allowed myself to go on my phone during my walks since it would be so boring without music. But I’ve enjoyed the reading, and the journaling, which is a great start to my day.

I think another great thing about it is that on days where I’m not so busy (I was in the city this entire weekend, so I didn’t do much), it really keeps me accountable. Since reading is baked into my morning routine, like I said, I really feel the pressure to do it and I will do it every day I do my morning routine. I also really feel the pressure to go to bed early (although I haven’t been doing that great… I think I’ve only woken up before 8 half the days). And I feel the pressure to work on my hobbies. I’ve been writing a lot, and in a way different genre than I usually go. More fantasy and sad stuff. I’ve been drawing in colored pencil and pen a lot more too. Honestly I’ve just generally been more inspired. Even when I’m not writing I come up with a million ideas.

The workouts have been the same. Nothing really to report, just the same old five times a week, which I’d probably be doing without project 50, so meh. I did notice that my muscles have been growing A LOT from strength training, but I am kind of failing at eating. I go to bed hungry a lot, mostly because I don’t keep snacks. Speaking of eating, that’s going okay, I would say. I did get a combo meal today, which I don’t usually do, and I would’ve probably filled my cup with lemonade on any normal day. However, thinking about project 50, I went with 70% unsweetened tea and 30% sweetened tea and it was literally the perfect balance. So I would say my health is, if not perfect, at least enjoyable for me to maintain.

Overall, I’m really happy with how it’s going! I do really need to work on getting up early, so I’m probably going to bed right after this. That’s what I think I need to work on the most for future weeks. But overall, I think this challenge combined with the fact I’m in a new city has made me so much happier. I’m more productive and I feel like I’m doing great things with my time. I’m closer with friends and I go outside more (lol). I think the other thing though is that on weekends, when I don’t work out and don’t have as much of an incentive to wake up early, I will fall into a slump. So I’ve gotta work on that too. But yeah, I would definitely recommend it thus far!
